Okay, so this what I remember: Lucifer had possessed Sam and Sam didn't manage to take control, so sort of an endverse vibe, but Dean wasn't a rebel leader. The fic starts with Sam saying yes to Gabriel. He takes Sam as a vessel to prevent Lucifer from doing so. When Dean finds out he’s afraid Sam was burned out but Gabriel is protecting him. Pretty sure it’s slash.
